About Sean
My name is Sean Z Becker and I am proud to say that Portland is my home.
Growing up in Northwest Portland I experienced the gentrification of the neighborhood first-hand. I watched biker bars become pizza shops, run-down commercial spaces become trendy boutiques, and abandoned houses transformed from shabby to chic in a decade. It left me with an impression that is lasting, and it hooked me on real estate at the local level.
During the same time, my father started a local wood floor contracting business in our living room and I learned first-hand what it means to “live” your business. I was fortunate to grow-up with this experience as it also allowed me to peer inside countless homes, in every neighborhood in the city. Door by door I came to understand what makes Portland’s housing and our neighborhoods remarkable. Additionally, it taught me the value of local business, local clients, and what it means to do business in the community in which you live.
As my father’s business grew, I graduated high school and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. I served for three years living and working aboard the USCGC Eagle, a 295-foot tall ship; serving as a diplomatic and goodwill sailing ship for the United States. While living aboard this ship, I lead a team of 23 crewmembers and was fortunate enough to travel to the Eastern Seaboard, Europe, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean during the length of my term.
After returning home, I attended Portland State University where I earned a Bachelor degree in Economics while helping my father run the family business that had expanded and earned a well-respected reputation over the years. Working with my father taught me that there are many responsibilities that come with achieving success. I learned to overcome challenges, stay focused, resolve issues, and most importantly, produce excellence.
Passionate about providing exceptional client service and armed with an intimate knowledge of the Portland housing market, my career in real estate began in 2004. My first role put me at the center of the condominium market working on many of the high-rise complexes located in the Pearl District and Portland’s South Waterfront. During this time I led a talented team of brokers and administrators managing sales and operations at on-site showrooms. This experience proved to be a valuable education in anticipating and responding to the challenges unique to the Portland real estate market. By focusing on the big picture and high volume nature of inner-city real estate development, I was able to expand the reach of my clientele. The culmination of my years of experience is now Sean Z Becker Real Estate. I now focus the majority of my work representing individual buyers and sellers of single-family homes and condominiums in addition to continuing my work with urban developers.
As a Portland native I understand the unique nature and experience our city provides. I truly appreciate all things Portland – the urban culture as well as the natural environment at our doorstep. I’m a cyclist, windsurfer, and snowboarder, and as such I experience Portland and our surrounding areas from the outdoor wonder of the Northwest. This experience provides me an authentic perspective on how we Portlanders live in and love our city.
